Bentley Continental Flying Spur

The launch of the Bentley Continental Flying Spur in Spring 2005 marked a a major step forward to boost sales to an annual figure of 15.000. In its outward outward appearance the new model was a close relative of the Bentley Continental GT Coupé. This could be said of technical components, too. Many of these were interchangeable between both models and that was true for certain body features, e.g. headlamp units.

A wide variety of extras was offered and did allow to meet the requirements of discerning clients. Quality of material and workmanship were of that outstanding level that was a hallmark of Bentley. Instead of a rear seat arrangement shown here that offers accommodation for three passengers should there be need there was the option for two separate seats. These would be divided by ‘run-through centre console’. As an extra a sliding sunroof was available although its function was a relative one in conjunction with the air-conditioning system permitting to adjust temperature individually for each seat.

A big question mark was set by the new model as regards the fate of the “big” 4-door models from the Arnage range. Despite the manufacturers announcement that these would remain in production many did consider the immediate sales success of the new Bentley Continental Flying Spur as a “swan song” for the 4-door variants that had been offered up now. It couldn’t be neglected that the exquisite W12-engine was head and shoulders above the rather dated power plant to V8-configuration. And in direct comparison with the Bentley Arnage neither the Bentley Continental Flying Spur’s interior nor its roadholding was inferior…
