Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, 1953, #BLW25
Limousine by Hooper

Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith

This Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith was built as a limousine by Hooper and supplied to the Foreign Office to be used by the British Ambassador in Washington. The chassis was a lefthand-drive and stamped #LBLW25. After the car had returned to the UK many years later it was converted to righthand-drive at the factory and accordingly the chassis number became altered to #BLW25.

Some confusion did arise about this particular car. Erroneously in several books it was noted as having received coachwork to Hooper’s Design-No. 8390 whereas indeed Hooper’s records, ie. the „Hooper Body Book“ (filed here), list a body built to Design-No. 8330. When comparing the car's photos to coachbuilder's drawing (filed here) and to other R-R Silver Wraith limousines to Design-No. 8330 that were built at Hooper's around the same time for the same purpose (for use of H.M. Ambassadors in various countries) no point is seen that makes believe the car was not to Design-No. 8330.
